On Tuesday July 28th, Oculus Story Studio premiered Henry, their second VR Experience movie available for the upcoming Oculus Rift.
One of 5 short works planned by the new production house, the movie features Henry, The Hedgehog, a lovable but spikey character who just wants some friends for his birthday. Narrated by Elijah Wood and directed by Ramiro Lopez, formerly of Pixar, the video really shows off just how amazing the future of VR content will be.
According to Inigo Quilez, (another former Pixar VFX Supervisor):
“Henry introduces advanced visual effects that bring the character to life, allowing him to respond to your movements and make eye contact with you inside the virtual world.”
In an interview on Wired, the team discusses how the movie was developed by using Maya and a modified version of Epic’s Unreal 4 Engine. We can’t wait to hear more about the “making of” process as the info becomes available, but for now, this definitely gives some hints as to how the film was made with such high quality and interactivity.
The movie will be available parallel to the release of the Oculus Rift on Q1 2016.
